Assembly Guide

IKEA EKET Wall-Mounted Cabinet

EKET is IKEA's playful wall-mounted cube storage system. You can arrange the cubes in any pattern you like — which is fun until you have to actually mount them level on a wall. The mounting system is the real challenge here, not the cube assembly itself.

Steps:6
Time:20–30 minutes per cube, plus mounting time

Common Challenges

1Wall mounting requires precision layout

If you're mounting multiple EKET cubes in a pattern, you need to plan the entire layout on the wall before drilling a single hole. Mark everything with pencil and painter's tape first. One misplaced bracket throws off the entire arrangement.

2The mounting brackets are hidden but load-bearing

EKET uses a concealed wall bracket that carries all the weight. The bracket must be level and anchored into studs or with appropriate wall anchors rated for the load. Drywall anchors alone won't hold a loaded cube long-term.

3Cube-to-cube connections are wobbly without proper fastening

If stacking cubes, the included rubber feet and connecting hardware are the only things keeping them aligned. Tighten the connecting bolts fully — any looseness magnifies as you add more cubes.

4Doors add weight and leverage

Adding a door to an EKET cube shifts the center of gravity forward when opened. Make sure the wall bracket is rated for the total weight (cube + contents + door), not just the empty cube.

What You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Drill with bits for your wall type
  • Level
  • Stud finder
  • Pencil
  • Painter's tape (for layout planning)
  • Measuring tape

Tips Before You Start

1

Use painter's tape on the wall to mock up your EKET layout before drilling. Step back and look at it from across the room — asymmetry that looks good up close can look off from a distance.

2

If you're mounting on drywall without studs, use toggle bolts (not plastic anchors). Each loaded EKET cube can weigh 15-20 kg and plastic anchors will eventually pull out.

3

Assemble all cubes on the floor first, then mount. Trying to assemble a cube while it's on the wall is an exercise in frustration.
